Mary Beth Harrell On Her Son Going To Iraq

Check out Mary Beth Harrell's diary at Dailykos, "My Son's in Iraq and I'm Running for Congress in Texas". Go read the whole thing, buty here are a couple of excerpts:
On the day the President delivered his speech to a captive audience of Naval Academy cadets, we said good-bye to our oldest boy, Rob, as he headed off for the war in Iraq. My husband, Bob, a Reagan Republican and retired Army warrant officer, was furious. He's fed up with the empty rhetoric that is sending our son to fight what we now know is a meaningless war.

...

My opponent, John Carter, joined a small shameless gang of Republican Congressman to accuse Murtha, recipient of two Purple Hearts, the Bronze Star and the Vietnamese Cross for Gallantry, of wanting "to take the cowardly way out."

John Carter does not deserve, much less understand, the sacrifice and bravery of the volunteer soldiers he sent to fight and die in Iraq.

I admire Mary Beth Harrell tremendously. I'm so looking forward to having someone representing me in Congress who's living in and dealing with reality. Whereas Carter and his like mindlessly bandy about "Support Our Troops", Harrell has a personal understanding of the sacrifice our troops are making and knows that treating them as disposable or as some kind of collateral damage to be expected in war is NOT supporting them in the least. America can and must do better -- and we will with Mary Beth Harrell in office.
