A Few Items

The "unofficial" early voting totals for Williamson County are here. Republican turn out was more than 5 times (5746) that of Democrats (1048).

On Sunday the SAEN did a series of articles on James Leininger. The main story, one on his web of PAC's and the last on his attempt to unseat Sen. Whitmire in 2002. Here's a summary of the last story. Leininger went after Sen. Wentworth because the Senator's law firm represented Metabolife, which Leininger didn't like. Long story short, Wentworth's law firm dropped Metabolife, Wentworth and Leininger are now friends, and not only will Leininger not back someone against Wentworth next time, he will not help a Houston Right to Life group finance a challenger to Wentworth. Looks like Wentworth and Leininger got what they wanted out of the deal.

Lt. Gov. Dewhurst and Speaker Craddick are crowing about their record in today's DMN, Watching Texas' Bottom Line. Yes they should be rewarded for balancing the budget on the backs of the poor and needy and for their inability to bring their own party together on a school finance compromise. I'm impressed.
