Chris Bell Out Front On Accenture Scandal

Bell Asks USDA to Halt Accenture Deal:
Citing ethical concerns involving the privatization of Medicaid call centers, Democrat Chris Bell sent a letter to the U.S. Department of Agriculture urging the agency to withhold approval of the contract with Accenture Ltd.
Here are some of the highlights:
* The HHSC Inspector General investigated an ethics complaint surrounding the contract that Accenture received. According to a published report, two high-level HHSC staffers used the revolving door to get jobs with Accenture and one of its contractors. (San Antonio Express-News, Mar. 17, 2005)

* In a letter to HHSC Commissioner Albert Hawkins, two Democratic state lawmakers alleged that Accenture bragged about receiving proprietary technical information about another vendor. They also alleged that Accenture used inside information from the RFP that it quoted verbatim in its proposal. (Newsweek, Mar. 18, 2005)

* In Mar. 2005, IBM filed a lawsuit in state district court alleging that Accenture won the contract as a result of conflicts of interest. (Austin American-Statesman, Mar. 19, 2005)

* Also, Rick Perry has taken $33,000 from Accenture’s registered lobbyists since he became governor.
More to come on this subject soon.
